Spring!

This winter seems to have been long and dark.  Finally, spring is arriving here in Indiana, with the arrival of robins, daffodils, and new leaves emerging. This week, I needed a  birthday gift for one of the little girls in the neighborhood.  She's just starting to notice nature, and is intrigued by birds in particular.  A little birdie seemed to be just the thing to knit for her.  I'm ever so greatful that my Dad took my brother and I on all those nature walks when we were kids.  Teaching an appreciation of nature has got to be right up there in the list of great things parents can do for their kids. 

This little bird/egg (the bird tucks inside the egg and vice versa) are made from Debbie Bliss EcoCotton (100% organic cotton) yarn. I really liked this yarn; it's soft and drapey for an aran weight cotton.   The nest is made of several differt kinds of brown yarns (wool, alpaca, and cotton) from the stash.  The pattern is from Susan B. Anderson's Itty-Bitty Toys: How to Knit Animals, Dolls, and Other Playthings for Kids.   This is a great book, full of all kinds of creative patterns.  Patterns are well written and are all generally quick knits.
